Hands and Feet Dance Studio 2014-2015 Dance Season Newsletter
Hi everyone! We are so excited to start dance again for a fourth season. We are so blessed to be able to have this opportunity for a fourth year! We enjoyed holding summer camps this summer. We cannot wait to meet new girls and their families and see familiar faces again. Please feel free to forward this newsletter on to friends who might be interested.
About us: We felt like the Lord was calling us to start a dance studio in our home around four or five years ago. We wanted to call our studio Hands and Feet because we really like the song “Hands and Feet” that talks about being God’s hands and feet and going where He sends us. We feel He is calling us to be His hands and feet by having a Christian dance studio. In March of 2011, we were able to go on a mission trip to Haiti and again in July of 2012 using the money that we earned by teaching dance classes. We are planning on taking a trip to Mozambique this November using the money we’ve earned from teaching and the money we make this season we will continue to save up for future mission trips.
Ages: The age that dancers can start taking classes is two years old and we don’t have an age limit for how old students can be. Dancers don’t need to have any dance experience at all. For dancers 3 and under, classes are 30 minutes long and for dancers 4 and up, classes are an hour long.
Classes: We are planning on having four classes that meet on Thursday evenings. We are not sure yet what the time slots will be. They will probably start at around 4 or 5pm for younger girls and 5pm or 6pm for older girls. We will see how many girls we have interested and then we will send out official class times. The girls will be grouped based on age and ability. The times and age groups may change once we see how many girls are interested after the parent meeting.
Prices: The cost of class for the two and three year old class is $15 a month per child. The cost for classes for the three older classes is $25 per month per child. However, we believe all girls should have the chance to dance for the Lord and so if you can’t afford the fee please let us know because we have scholarships available. We will use all of the money that we make from teaching to save up for mission trips.
Kind of dance taught: All of the dance we teach will be glorifying and pleasing to the Lord. We will not allow any inappropriate dance moves, clothing, or songs. The dancers will mainly learn ballet, lyrical, jazz, hip-hop, and worship dance.
Attire for class: WE SELL DANCEWEAR: Hands and Feet Dance studio will have dancewear for order from Dancewear Solutions including leotards, tights, dance shoes, and other dance attire. The items are reasonably priced and are of good to excellent quality. At the parent meeting, we will have samples and catalogs available. We will take orders at the meeting for anyone interested and will place orders as needed throughout the dance season.
-Leotards are required. Please no spaghetti strap leotards, no halter top leotards, and nothing that shows your stomach or too much of your back please.
-Dancers may wear skirts, shorts, gauchos, or Capri pants over their leotards. They are not required to wear something over their leotards. It’s whatever is comfortable for them. Please no pants. We like to be able to see the legs from the knee down.
-If dancers feel uncomfortable wearing just a leotard they may wear a tight fitting spaghetti strap shirt or tank top over top of the leotard. Please no t-shirts. -Tights are also required. They may be any color.
-Dance shoes: Students will need a pair of jazz or ballet shoes for class. You can get them at Meijer, Payless, Kenney Dancewear, or through Hands and Feet Dance studio.
-Hair: Please have hair pulled completely out of face (ex. ponytail or bun) for long hair. If hair is short please pin hair up partially or wear a headband so that your hair is completely off of the face. The only reason we ask this is so the dancers are not distracted by their hair when trying to dance.
Start Date: We will be having a mandatory parent meeting on Thursday, August 29 from 6:30-7:30 pm at our home. If you are vaguely or very interested in taking classes, we ask you come to this meeting. We will have sign-ups then and ask each family with a dancer/s in the program to put down the first month’s fee of $15 or $25 depending on which class their daughter/s is in to hold their spot in the dance program. Please email us if you will be attending the parent meeting so we know how many parents we can expect. The next week, Thursday, September 5th we will be starting dance classes. The first week will be extra fun and easy to allow the girls to start to get to know everyone in their class. From then, classes will continue every Thursday until the end of April with breaks for holidays. If you are unable to attend the parent meeting or will be late to the meeting, but are interested in the classes, please contact us to set up a time for a one-on-one parent meeting.
Location: We teach class in our basement at our home on the westside of Indianapolis. Our address is 8812 Stonewall Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46231. Please let us know if you need directions.
Dance Celebration/Recital: We will have a dance celebration/recital/time of worship at the end of the season in the spring (most likely mid-April) where each class will get to lead others in worship through the routines that they have learned in class. The exact date of the recital is to be announced. We are also praying about a location that would not charge us to use the facility so if you have any ideas, please let us know! Send us an email to RSVP for the parent meeting or if you have any other questions. Please feel free to forward this onto anyone else you may know who is interested!
